Mitigation Specialists with Knowledge of Federal and State Courts

Our mitigation specialists investigate a client’s background and prepare sentencing memoranda. These documents present the mitigation factors to assist defense counsel in arguing for a lesser sentence or alternatives to incarceration.

We work with a group of professionals to help create a strong and effective defense for our clients. Our network includes forensic psychiatrists and psychologists, substance abuse treatment providers, forensic accountants, forensic computer analysts and other experts as needed.

Our mitigation consulting helps defense attorneys advocating for incarcerated clients. This includes managing issues with their community release and parole. The experience continues to enhance our expertise in Federal and State prison policy.

Professional Experience

Clint Roberts has over 25 years of professional experience in the criminal justice system. He has testified in state cases in all of Connecticut’s Judicial District Courts and in selected cases in the United States District Court 2nd and 3rd Circuits.

Mr. Roberts works with privately retained criminal defense attorneys and public defenders. He has been approved in specific cases to assist court-appointed criminal defense attorneys in Federal cases (CJA approved cases).

His professional experience includes being a former Program Director of Pretrial Diversionary Project for Community Resources for Justice in Hartford, CT and a former State of Connecticut Judicial Department Adult Probation Officer specializing in defendant evaluations and as a legislative liaison with the General Assembly Judiciary Committee.

In 1988 he founded the private practice, Clinton J. Roberts & Associates, Inc., specializing in criminal defense mitigation providing services to the criminal defense bar in Federal and State cases.

Clint Roberts is a graduate of Fairfield University (BA) and has an advanced degree – Master of Arts Degree (MAPP) in Public Policy and Law from the Joint Degree Program at Trinity College and University of Connecticut School of Law.
